GrassworkerFanny Broomfield...was born in 1938 in the coastal Labrador area of Rigolet. Mother of 10 ( Georgina being one of them ), and grandmother and great grandmother to many more, Fanny finally had enough time to take up grass work in the late 80's. There is a long tradition sewing salt water grass among the Inuit of the north coast, particularly in the Rigolet area. Sometimes only the Labrador Grass with its colorful hues is used, at other times imported raffia is used for colorful patterns, Fanny was a student of the master grass workers, Garmel Rich and she carries on the tradition of tightly sewing baskets ( reputed to hold water ) that are bought jk by discriminating collectors of such high-end craft work.
